Obviously, there are going to be rumors and innuendo any time there is an investigation of this magnitude, which is unprecedented in college athletics. As far as Brownell and Clemson are concerned, we have been asking Brownell about the scandal since it first broke with Louisville last October, and Brownell's response back then and as late as a week ago lead me to believe he has nothing to worry about. He talked about how important it is to do things the right way and how it's a big disadvantage when others are not. Either he is a very good liar, or there were no violations by anyone at Clemson.
Brownell was named one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Award today, and it would be extremely ironic and ignominious if the Tigers' outlandish success this season has put the program under the microscope.
