SPIERS MAKING THE JUMP • Sophomore righthander Carson Spiers saw limited action as a freshman, but he has made a big jump as one of the team's top relievers in 2018. • He has made a team-high 11 appearances, all out of the bullpen, and has a team-high three saves. • He is 1-1 with a 3.52 ERA, .167 opponents' batting average and 17 strikeouts against five walks in 15.1 innings pitched. • He is holding opponents to an .074 batting average with runners on base. • In his career, he is 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA and 20 strikeouts against five walks in 18.1 innings pitched over 14 relief appearances. • His cousin, Will Spiers, is the starting punter on the Tiger football team. • His father, Michael Spiers, hit .301 with 16 homers, 110 RBIs and 32 steals in 184 games as a Tiger from 1988-91. • His uncle, Bill Spiers, hit .325 with 17 homers, 119 RBIs and 60 steals in 173 games as a Tiger from 1985-87, then played 13 MLB seasons. • His grandfather, Bud Spiers, hit .254 with seven homers and 44 RBIs as a Tiger from 1956-58. |

Obviously, the basketball game is going to be going on at the same time, but I'll do my best to provide baseball updates here. Pretty bad break having to go to #11 Louisville coming off a 4-game losing streak. Would have been nice to get BC at home this weekend instead!

TIGERS WIN 3-1!!! Ends a 4-game losing streak, Tigers improve to 17-5 on the season and 4-3 in the ACC. Wilkie was 2-4 with 2 RBI's. Hennessy went 7.1 innings, allowing just the one earned run on 5 hits, 6 K's and 2 walks. He improves to 2-1 on the season. Spiers went a third of an inning, and Ryan Miller went one and a third, earning his second save. I'll have updates for tomorrow's game at 1:00! LOUISVILLE, KY. - Jacob Hennessy pitched a career-long 7.1 innings to lead No. 10 Clemson to a 3-1 victory over No. 11 Louisville at Jim Patterson Stadium on Friday night. The Tigers, who took a 1-0 lead in the series, improved to 17-5 overall and 4-3 in the ACC. The Cardinals dropped to 17-5 overall and 3-4 in ACC play. Hennessy (2-1) earned the win by allowing just five hits, one run and two walks with six strikeouts. Ryan Miller pitched the final 1.1 innings to record his second save of the season. Louisville starter Adam Wolf (3-1) suffered the loss, as he gave up four hits, three runs (one earned) and three walks with nine strikeouts in 8.0 innings pitched. With two outs in the top of the second inning, Kyle Wilkie belted a two-run double, then the Cardinals responded with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Chris Williams led off the fourth inning with a walk and scored on a double by Drew Wharton, who had three hits in the game. The series continues Saturday at 1 p.m., on ACC Network Extra. |
