On finishing the game: “We’ve got some work to do, because we want to be back, and we want
to win the whole thing next year.”
-
On how Kansas made the game difficult: “I think they were just being Kansas. I think, overall, we
beat ourselves. We had too many mistakes – eight turnovers at halftime. We’re a team that
usually doesn’t turn over the ball that much.”
-
On what he’ll remember about the season: “This was a great group of guys that bought into the
system. It just shows that (for) the guys coming back next year, the things that can be done.”
-
On what he learned this season: “You’ve got to play hard every minute of the game, every
second of the game. You’ve got to come prepared. You’ve got to take care of the ball.”
-
On Gabe Devoe: “He’s everything. He’s a great player. I love him to death. He had a really great
season as a senior. I wish him the best of luck in his career.”
Shelton Mitchell
-
On the team: “We believe in each other. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says about the
team. We have a bunch of guys that just want to win.”
-
On shooting vs. driving: “We were down so much. Three is greater than two. I was still going to
attack the basket no matter what, because that’s the way I play.”
-
On what went wrong: “Multiple guys missed a bunch of easy shots. I missed a bunch of easy
shots. I was getting the shots I wanted. We were getting the shots we wanted. They just weren’t
falling. We were never going to quit. We’ve been in that situation multiple times this year. Sometimes we
came back and won. Today we needed to make a couple of more plays, and it just didn’t
happen.”
-
On what he learned: “It was fun. Every kid dreams of playing in this tournament. I dreamed of it
when I was a kid. Playing in the Sweet 16 – that was huge. .... Never give up. Keep fighting no
matter how much time is left. Anything can happen.”
Donte Grantham
-
“We put in the work. We’ve got really good players here. We’ve got a really good coach here.”
-
“There’s so much that I learned. ... It’s grit – passion and perseverance toward a long-term goal.
... Every year, we kept battling (up) the mountain and battling (up) the mountain. ... Sometimes I would take two steps back but just continue to stay at it and believe in our team.”
On where this appearance can lead Clemson: “I think, to be honest, we set a platform this year of success where we just believe in one another. ... I think we have the talent. ... We have the facilities. ... We’ve got really good players. I think this is something our team can consistently do on a consistent basis.”
On pride in team coming back: “Unbelievable. Like I said, they battled adversity throughout the
whole year. I can’t thank them enough for letting me get to the tournament (in) my last year
here. (I’m) unbelievably proud.”
-
On pain of losing: “It hurts a lot. (It’s) my last game as a senior. I really wanted us to win this
game. Obviously it’s going to hurt bad. ... I love this team. It’s the favorite team I’ve ever played
on. I just love the game of basketball. Nobody in here like to lose, so it’s going to hurt.”
-
On hardest part of losing: “Just knowing that I’m not going to get to play with them (any) more.
... Just knowing that I won’t put on this Clemson jersey (any) more. It’s going to hurt.”
Aamir Simms
-
On program’s future: “I believe in my teammates. I believe in my coaching staff. I believe in my
school. I think our coaches are going to do a tremendous job of bringing (in) even more players
that believe in Clemson grit. ... We have a good group of guys coming back.”
-
Message for fans: “I really want to thank our fans. There’ve been games where we would play
dominant teams and they all still showed up and had lines waiting outside of Littlejohn. ... There
are fans who flew all the way out here and drove here, as well. I just want to thank the fans
from the bottom of my heart.”
