SUNDAY EVENING DABO TELECONFERENCE

Just got off the phone with Dabo. In case you missed it, he told us after the game last night that Mark Fields pulled his groin in practice, which is why he didn't play yesterday. Fortunately, they did need him because Terrell was ejected for targeting in the first half. You may have noticed OG Sean Pollard also didn't play yesterday. Dabo said he had a back spasm earlier in the week but was ready to play. However, since they jumped out to a 14-0 lead on their first 5 offensive plays, they decided to give him the day off. Dabo also told us OL Noah DeHond had surgery on his neck/shoulder last week.

I asked Dabo about Terrell's targeting call, and he said he did not agree with the call because Terrell tried to turn his head, and the Louisville player lowered his. Chad Smith was called for targeting earlier in the season as well. I asked Dabo how much time they spend at practice talking about the right way to tackle and avoiding targeting. He said they work on it all the time, but sometimes, like yesterday, it's bang-bang and kind of unavoidable. The officials have been wildly inconsistent on their enforcement of targeting all season long. There was a text book example of targeting by an LSU player last night, but they overruled the call. And yet LSU did lose a player for targeting last week for a far less qualifying hit. Personally, I think the officials gave LSU a make-up call a week after the fact! Thank goodness Terrell's ejection occurred in the first half yesterday, so he will be able to start at BC next week--especially with Fields hurt.

I'll have the audio posted for you shortly. Don't forget to check back tomorrow at lunch time for our regular Monday interviews with Venables, Scott, Trevor Lawrence and several other players!
