Tigers lose 7th straight, 9-8 again, swept by Duke

Happy Easter! Last year’s Friday starter, Jacob Hennessy, will get his first weekend start after 5 scoreless innings at Georgia on Tuesday. He’s looked pretty good his last couple times out, and Askew was chased early at FSU last Sunday. Tigers hoping to avoid their second straight weekend sweep and end a 6-game losing streak, the longest under Monte Lee.

Tigers trail 5-2 in the bottom of the 4th. Hennessy gave up a solo HR in the 1st. Tigers answered to tie with a Davidson single, Byrd walk and Wilkie single. However, Hennessy ran into trouble in the 2nd with 2 outs, giving up a single and a HR for 3 more runs.

Hall drove in the Tigers’ other run with a 2-out single, but then Duke scores again on a 2-out error by Parker at 3rd. Sommerfeld came in to relieve Hennessy in the 4th.

TIGERS TRAIL 5-2 M4.

Sommerfeld gave up a triple and 3 more runs in the 5th, putting Duke up 8-2, but the Tigers answered in the bottom half! Byrd and Justin Hawkins both homered, and the Tigers scored 6 runs to tie it 8-8! Justin Hawkins didn’t even get his first hit of the season until yesterday!

Weatherly came in for Sommerfeld after the homer in the 5th and went 1-2-3 with 2 K’s in the 6th.

TIED 8-8 M6.

Spiers came in for Weatherly in the 7th. Still 8-8 in the top of the 8th! Tigers need to figure out a way to break out of this rut they are in. If they can, maybe they’ll go on a good win streak.

Ugh Spiers gives up a leadoff HR in the top of the 9th! I swear the Tigers can’t buy a break in the past week. Spiers gave up the 2-out double in the 9th on Friday night to give Duke the win by the same 9-8 score!

TIGERS TRAIL 9-8 M9.

Henderson pinch running for Hawkins. Let’s see if he tries to steal.

Sharpe flies out to end the game.

TIGERS SWEPT 9-8.

Same score as Friday night and similar ending. Tigers have now lost 7 straight, the longest losing streak in the Monte Lee era. These things are psychological, and it definitely is right now for the Tigers! Let’s hope the Tuesday home game against Winthrop can get them out of this funk.
