Just one 3 by Simms, who started out red-hot with 12 points in the first 8 minutes but didn't score in the last 12. Mack has just 4 points, and the Tigers usually don't win unless he scores at least 12. The Tigers are just 5-14 at the free throw line, and that's something I asked Brownell about on Thursday. They missed 3 of 4 down the stretch in Chapel Hill and went just 11-22 in the Duke win. The Tigers overcame a 10-point deficit at the half in Chapel Hill a week ago. In fact, they trailed by 10 with just 2 minutes left, so they have the ability to rally on the road! TIGERS TRAIL 36-24 AT THE HALF. |

TIGERS LOSE 60-54. First loss of 2020 snaps the Tigers' historic 3-game win streak over Tobacco Road. Good to see them battle back from an 18-point deficit on the road, but the story of the game was free throws. The Tigers were an abysmal 9-23 from the line after going 26-31 in the win against State a couple weeks ago. All they had to do was shoot a below-average 16-23, and they would have won today. Simms had a great start with 12 points in the first 8 minutes but scored just 6 points the rest of the way. I said that the Tigers would lose if Mack scored less than 14, and he scored 12. Next up is Wake on Tuesday in Littlejohn! I expect the Tigers to bounce back with a big win. |
