Big Ten sets start date for football

They will begin play the weekend of the 24th. Very embarrassing for Kevin Warren! Nothing has changed except that he has seen other conferences playing safely and has been lambasted for it. They will only play 9 games, and that includes the Championship, so hopefully they won't be allowed in the CFP. Clemson will have played 12 games including the ACC Championship.

My understanding is that the 10 FBS commissioners will vote on whether to allow the Big Ten to be eligible for the College Football Playoff. You would think that Swarbrick and the ACC, SEC and Big 12 commissioners would all be against the Big Ten's inclusion. In addition, their inclusion would not be advantageous to the AAC, which hopes to get ranked teams UCF or Cincy into the playoff. They will have no chance in my opinion if the Big Ten is included. So that gives you 5 votes against right there, and all they need is 6 to exclude the Big Ten!

If the Big Ten is allowed CFP inclusion, the Tigers will still have quite a substantial over Ohio State and that is this: the Buckeyes will have to play 10 straight weeks without a bye in order to make it to the National Championship Game, which will be 12 days after the Semifnials. That is brutal! And there's no telling how far they've been set back with all this uncertainty and limited practice since they announced the cancellation. Their best player on defense also opted out, and it remains to be seen if he will reconsider now that they are playing.

Now that they are playing 9 games that is fine. Could we see a model on Championship weekend for the rest of the conferences with what the Big-10 is doing.

I think the Big-10 accidentally stumbled onto something conference championship weekend.

I like what the Big Ten is doing on championship weekend, having all the other teams play each other. However, I don't think they should be allowed in the playoff starting a month and a half later than Clemson and playing 3 less games. Just isn't fair! They should face consequences of trying to derail college football for the entire season and acting hastily.
