I expected one of the backs to transfer because that position has so much competition, but I thought it would be Dukes, who got much less playing time than Mellusi last year. I thought Chez would really push Dixon for carries next season, but it looks like he'll go elsewhere. I like what I saw from Pace in the spring, and I think he could battle for the starting spot with Dixon. And, of course, it's just a matter of time before freshman Will Shipley is a major factor. The other freshman, Phil Mafah, looks really good too, so the Tigers still have plenty talent and depth in the backfield.
Mellusi is the 6th player to enter the transfer portal since the season ended. Of course, with the NCAA eliminating its rule that undergrad transfers must sit out a year, Mellusi might not be the last to leave. Players have until June 1 to enter the portal and be eligible to play next season.
