OFFICIAL NCAA REGIONAL THREAD: NO.10 CLEMSON at No.3 Alabama

CUTrevor 2021-05-22 11:03:33

First pitch is at noon ET on ESPN2, and I'll have live updates right here! Should be a pitchers' duel between two of the nation's best, Cagle and Fouts. Clemson ERA is No.6 in nation, No.3 in Power Five. Bama ERA is 11th in nation. Oh by the way, Bama has won an NCAA-record 41 straight regional games, dating back to 2007! Yet another reason the Tigers were screwed over by the NCAA Selection Committee. Should be the No.30 team in this spot, not the No.10 team Clemson.

This is an enormous game with the winner gaining a huge advantage in the regional. The loser will have to win today at 5:00 against the winner of the loser's bracket. Then, they would have to beat his opponent twice tomorrow! The winner of this game gets to rest and only has to win one of two games tomorrow.

Yikes, Cagle gives up 3 straight infield singles to load the bases with no outs! The first was a grounder to short and the next two were bunts. All 3 were bang-bang plays at 1st. She needs a couple K's here badly, but Bama has its best hitter up!

Yep, Hemphill singles on a weak bloop to score the first 2 runs of the game. Hyatt threw the runner out at 3rd from home for the first out, though. Runner on 1st with one out. Boy, talk about Bama getting all the breaks! 3 hits didn't leave the infield, and the 4th was a weak pop fly that dropped in shallow right!

Cagle gets a fly and a grounder to end the inning. Gonna be tough to score 2 on Fouts, though!

Ugh 2-out single scores 2 to make it 4-0. It was yet another weak, infield chopper by Bama, their 5th of the game! I don't think I've ever seen a 4-0 game with all 4 runs coming from weak, lucky hits and bunts. Corners with 2 outs for Bama's best hitter, Hemphill. I would intentionally walk her. Can't afford any more runs!

Fouts fittingly strikes out the side to end the game. She finished with 16 K's!

TIGERS LOSE 6-0.

The score does not indicate how well Cagle pitched in her second straight day against a rested Fouts. All of Bama's runs came on weak infield hits, bunts and bloop singles, and several of them came with 2 outs. It could have easily been scoreless in the 7th inning!

Tigers will play the winner of Troy and Alabama State at approximately 5:00 today. They will have to win that game and beat Bama twice tomorrow in order to advance to the Super Regional.

It's a shame that the Tigers were screwed over by the NCAA Selection Committee after the season they had. They should have hosted this weekend and not faced Alabama until at least the Super Regional round or the CWS. At least then, it would be a best of three series, and the Tigers wouldn't have to exhaust their pitching while Bama rests.

Incidentally, Notre Dame just crushed regional host Kentucky 12-3, and VA Tech won 8-2 at regional host Arizona State yesterday, proving how badly the Selection Committee screwed up. Two lesser ACC teams beating up on two teams that didn't deserve to host over Clemson. Not only should Clemson have hosted, but how do two teams that finished behind Clemson in the ACC and the rankings go to EASIER regionals than the Tigers??? Even if the committee wanted to deprive Clemson of a regional site, they should have sent the Tigers to the No.16 team's regional site, not No.3! It's just too bad BS politics have to get in the way of what is right.
