OFFICIAL ACC TOURNEY THREAD: CLEMSON vs. Louisville

CUTrevor 2021-05-25 12:04:24

Tigers trail 9-8 in the bottom of the 5th in what's been a wild, back-and-forth game so far in Charlotte. Caden Grice started the scoring with a 2-out, 2-run HR in the top of the 1st. Askew gave up 2 runs in the bottom half to tie with a 2-out sac fly and 2-out double. One of the runs came from a hit batter. The Tigers went back ahead 5-2 in the top of the 2nd with a no-out rally culminating with an RBI single by Hack and a 2-RBI double by Teo. However, Askew would give up 2 more runs with 2 outs on a HR in the bottom of the 2nd to make it 5-4.

Grice led off the 3rd with his 2nd HR of the game to make it 6-4. It was his 15th HR of the season. Askew returned the favor with a leadoff HR in the bottom half to make it 6-5. After that, Monte brought Anglin in from the pen and he gave up a solo HR to tie the game 6-6. Teo hit a 2-run HR in the 4th to put the Tigers back in front 8-6, but Anglin gave up a 2-run HR and a 2-out solo HR to give Louisville its first lead of the game, 9-8 in the bottom of the 4th.

That's where we stand now, with 8 total HR's in the first 4 innings, 5 for Louisville and 3 for the Tigers.

TIGERS TRAIL 9-8 M5.

Anglin gives up a leadoff walk on full count, and Monte brings Labriola in from the pen. I guess Anglin is a better starter than he is a reliever! He gave up 5 runs in 2 innings.

Teo strikes out and Hall grounds out to end the inning. Henderson pinch hit for Brewer to lead off the inning, and I'm not sure why. The way the ball is flying out of the park, you'd think Monte would keep Brewer in the lineup because he's one of their best HR hitters. He was 0-1 and hit by a pitch, so maybe he's hurt.

Ugh Gilbert gets a K swinging but gives up a 2-out single for another run. Tigers trail 14-9. Monte can't find a pitcher to come in and not allow runs for a single inning!

Runner caught stealing to end the inning. If I'm Monte, I'd pinch hit French for Henderson next time out with the way the ball is flying out of the park.

Meredith flies out and Parker strikes out on full count. Hall, Meredith and Parker are a combined 0-11, Hall and Parker have each struck out twice. Incredible they've still scored 9 runs!

Grice and Hawkins line out to end the game.

TIGERS LOSE 15-10.

They will play Georgia Tech tomorrow night at 7:00, but they are essentially eliminated because of the pool play system. It takes the top team out of the group of 3, and if it's a 3-way tie, the highest seed advances. I expect tomorrow night to be the last game of the season for the Tigers because I don't think they will get an NCAA bid. It would be the first time Monte has failed to make the NCAA Tourney and the 2nd time for the Clemson program in about the last 34 years.
