Wow, it feels like New Year's, doesn't it? So many good games this weekend, starting tonight! Ohio State is at Minnesota, Jeff Scott and USF play at NC State, Boise plays at UCF, Chase Brice and App State take on ECU in Charlotte and The Citadel plays at Coastal Carolina. Huge ACC game tomorrow night in Blacksburg between UNC and VA Tech!

Pretty weak slate this week with no good games on Thursday or Friday. They should have saved from games from last week for this week! Biggest game is obviously Oregon at Ohio State on Saturday, but the Buckeyes are favored by 14. Couple of intriguing ACC/SEC, but the SEC has home field in both: Pitt at Tennessee (the Johnny Majors Bowl) and NC State at Mississippi State. That should give us a good idea if NC State is a legit top-25 team. Texas at Arkansas could be interesting, and Washington will try to rebound from its embarrassing home loss to FCS Montana by playing Michigan in the Big House.

Week 3 has a bunch of good games I'm looking forward to watching, and Bama at Florida isn't one of them. I think Florida is overrated and shouldn't have even been ranked preseason. Florida fans are super excited about the game because it's been a long time since they hosted Alabama, but I think it's gonna be ugly. Especially with Dan Mullen starting Emory Jones at quarterback. He should start the talented freshman to give them a slight chance.

Auburn is at Penn State, and it's gong to be a white out game at night in Happy Valley. A good buddy of mine will be there with his Auburn grad wife. Like Florida, I think Auburn had no business being ranked preseason, so I like the Staters in this one, maybe big.

Huge game in the ACC Coastal with UVA at UNC. The oldest rivalry in the south. UVA looked really good last week in their blowout win over Illinois. If the game were in Charlottesville, I'd probably pick the wahoos, but in Chapel Hill at night, with the Heels backed in a corner, I think they will win this game. Might be an elimination game for the Heels. They already lost to the Hokies, and if they lose another, they could be done in the Coastal race.

Another good ACC matchup is FSU at Wake. The Deacs are favored by 6.5 points at home after that debacle by FSU last week, losing on the last play to Zerrick Cooper and Jacksonville State. Wake is a good, well-coached team, and I really like Dave Clawson and quarterback Sam Hartman, so they very well may win this game, but my gut tells me the Noles bounce back and win a close game. They have their backs against the wall and a chip on their shoulder. Wake won't be afraid of them, but I think the Noles come out with something to prove.

Meanwhile, Luke Fickel takes his Cincy team to Indiana at noon. Indiana has had a disappointing start to the season, and I think Cincy will keep rolling.

Arizona State at BYU is a ranked matchup to keep an eye on late Saturday night. A couple of good quarterbacks will go at it, and after what I saw from BYU against Utah last week in the Holy War game, I think BYU does it again with a raucous night crowd and gets the win over another PAC-12 south team.

Miami has another big non-conference game this week, this time against Sparty out of the Big Ten. The Canes almost let Bama beat them twice in a row but were able to come with a stop when they had to against Chase Brice and App State last week to preserve the home win in a back-and-forth game. I think the Canes will draw from that and put together a better performance this week to beat Sparty.

Finally, Friday night kicks off the slate with Louisville hosting UCF. It's an interesting matchup because it's former App State coach Scott Satterfield, now in the ACC, going against former Auburn coach Gus Malzahn, now in the AAC and Group of Five. Louisville had a terrible opener against Ole Miss--especially defensively--but I think they might rebound with the home crowd and pull out a win. UCF was down 21-0 at home against Boise in their opener but rallied and pulled out a narrow win.

Good Group of Five game tonight with Marshall at App State to kick off week 4. Chase Brice and the Mountaineers are 2-1 and nearly knocked off Miami on the road.

Wake at Virginia should be a good Friday night game. Wake is 3-0 after drubbing FSU at home, and the Hoos are coming off a bad loss at UNC in which they gave up over 50 points. The biggest games on Saturday are A&M vs. Arkansas in the SWC Classic at Jerry World in Arlington and Notre Dame vs. Wisconsin at Soldier Field in Chicago. Notre Dame's starting quarterback was at Wisconsin last season, so that should be interesting to watch. It would help the Tigers' cause if Notre Dame drops this one. They've come close to losing to two bad teams in FSU and Toledo, but if they somehow go undefeated, they'll take up a playoff spot.

Louisville at FSU should also be fun to watch. We'll find out if Norvell has completely lost control of the ship in Tallahassee. I thought they would rally at Wake last week, but they didn't. I think the wheels are about to come off the bus. Please excuse the mixed metaphor. I'm also looking forward to UNC at GT, which is a night game in Atlanta. The Heels are coming off a big offensive win over a good UVA team, but if Tech plays like they did here last week, that could be an interesting game.

Big game in the ACC Coastal kicks off the weekend slate tonight, as UVA plays at Miami. The Hoos are coming off consecutive road losses at UNC and Wake, while the Canes rebounded from their home loss to Sparty by beating up on a cupcake 69-0 last week. UVA QB Brennan Armstrong is leading the nation in passing so far, but the Hoos need to find a defense, having given up 96 points in the last 2 games. Amazingly, it's the first ACC game for the Canes. UVA might already be out of the Coastal race with 2 ACC losses.

Tomorrow night, No.5 Iowa travels to 4-0 Maryland, which has close wins over West Virginia and Illinois. Should be a good test for the Hawkeyes!

We have a pair of top-10 matchups on Saturday. The red-hot No.8 Arkansas Razorbacks play between the hedges in Athens against No.2 UGA at noon (don't ask me why this got such a terrible time slot), and No.7 Cincy plays at No.9 Notre Dame at 2:30 on NBC. That will be a matchup of Brian Kelly against his former team, which he left for Notre Dame. He had Cincy ranked in the top 10 back in 2009. Notre Dame also stole Cincy's defensive coordinator from last season, Marcus Freeman.

Michigan at Wisconsin should be an interesting game at noon, and No.12 Ole Miss plays at No.1 Alabama at 3:30. That game was a shootout last year! Miss State plays at No.15 A&M at 7:00, and overrated No.22 Auburn plays at LSU at 9:00. Auburn almost lost at home to Georgia State last week! They scored late to take the lead and then got a pick-six to win by 10. I've been saying since preseason that they shouldn't be ranked. In the PAC-12, Arizona State at UCLA should be a good one with a couple dynamic QB's going head-to-head. And in the Big 12, No.21 Baylor plays at No.19 Oklahoma State at 7:00.

In the ACC, Pitt at red-hot Tech at noon should be a good one, and a hot Louisville team plays at No.24 Wake at 12:30.
