The Tigers hope to bounce back from last night's 7-2 loss. It was the first time they didn't have a good chance to win in the late innings in over 2 weeks. It was just their 3rd loss in 12 games. The others were a 4-3 loss to No.9 FSU and extra innings at No.23 Wake. At least the Tigers prevented the shutout by scoring 2 runs in the 9th. Let's hope that woke their bats up for today! Tigers trail 8-3 through 4 innings. They jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st thanks to an Ingle single, a Wagner walk, a Wright RBI single and a sac fly by Corbitt. However, Gilbert did not have his stuff out of the gate. He hit the leadoff man, gave up a wild pitch, a single and a walk on 4 pitches to load the bases with one out. Then he walked in a run and hit a second batter for another run. He had 2 K's and a foul out in the inning but was all over the place. Hawkins hit a solo HR in the 2nd to give the Tigers the lead back 3-2, but the Cards scored 4 more runs in the bottom half. Again, Gilbert walked the leadoff man, then gave up a single and 2 doubles with one out before Monte brought Lindley in from the pen. Lindley struck out his first batter but gave up a 2-out single for another run, making the score 6-3. The Cards just added 2 more runs in the 4th to make it 8-3. Lindley gave up a leadoff single, and he reached 2nd on a wild pitch, stole 3rd and scored on an errant throw by French, who started at catcher today. Lindley gave up a full-count walk and a walk on 4 pitches, and the Cards scored the 2nd run on a sac fly. Walks and hit batters have absolutely killed the Tigers today! Simply cannot do that on the road against a top-10 team. TIGERS TRAIL 8-3 AFTER 4. |
