Tigers can clinch a spot in the ACC Tournament with a win today OR a Duke loss tonight at VA Tech! Gilbert will be on the mound for the Tigers. Wagner hit his 25th HR last night, but Melendez hit another one for Texas, so Wagner is still in 2 HR's behind the leader, but he's alone in 2nd place nationally. Freshman Reed Garris will make his first start behind the plate. French injured his hamstring after his first at bat last night, and Garris replaced him. Ingle is just coming off an arm injury, so they don't want him to catch yet. Garris was 0-3 with 2 K's last night. |

Gordon gets a couple K’s to go 1-2-3! TIGERS WIN 6-2!!! They clinched a spot in ACC Tournament and will go for sweep on Senior Day tomorrow at 11:00. Wagner hit his 26th HR, a 2-out, 3-run shot with the score 3-2 in the 7th. He is just one HR shy of the national lead and National Player of the Year Khalil Greene's Clemson single-season record! Gilbert gave up just 2 runs, 4 hits and a walk in 5.2 innings, and Gordon was outstanding out of the pen. Hawkins also homered, Ingle and Garris each drove in a run. The RBI single was the first career hit for freshman Reed Garris, who made his first start behind the plate today. Monte told me after the game that French is likely out for at least a couple weeks (likely the season), and they do not plan to put Ingle behind the plate again this season because of his recent arm injury. So it will be the freshman Garris for the rest of the season! He has done a great job defensively, and Gilbert told me after the game that Garris has been catching him since they were like 11 years old, so it seems like destiny brought them together here for the penultimate home game of the season to clinch a spot in the ACC Tourney! I’ll have post-game interviews shortly! |
