Well, the Tigers get to face their 3rd different opponent of the regional, as the Ragin Cajuns won their way out of the loser's bracket by beating Wilmington and Auburn yesterday. Their only loss was a tight 4-3 game in their opener against Auburn on Friday, but they have to be exhausted. They played 11 innings in the 90-degree heat yesterday in their 3-1 win over UNCW and then beat Auburn 4-3 in 7 innings after that. First pitch is at noon on ACCN, and the Tigers will advance to their first-ever Super Regional if they win. If Louisiana wins, they'll play a winner-take-all game right after. The Tigers have yet to allow a run in the regional and have 19 shutouts on the season! They were held to just 3 hits by Auburn yesterday, but 2 of them came with 2 outs in the 4th: back-to-back doubles by Cagle and Guimbarda for the game's only run. I would expect Rittman to go with a rested Millie Thompson in the circle today, but we'll see. I said he should start Thompson against FSU for the ACC Championship last week, given the same choice, but he went with Cagle on back to back days, and she gave up 8 runs, including 4 in the 6th. They advance to their first-ever Super Regional in style! 14th run-rule win of the season and 20th shutout (3rd of the regional)! Rittman got the Gatorade bath after the game, and the players are running around in the sprinklers cooling off. Lol Tigers will travel to No.7 Oklahoma State for the Super Regional next weekend, assuming the Pokes win today. If they are upset by North Texas, the Tigers would stay right here and host the Super!
