OFFICIAL ACC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT THREAD: CLEMSON vs Virginia Tech

Just like the UNC game the other night, this will be the first meeting between the two teams this season. The Hokies have been the surprise story of the ACC this year. I never thought I'd see them as the No.1 seed of the tournament, but here they are, and they are ranked as high as No.2 in the nation. It's funny because Blacksburg isn't far from Knoxville, and Tennessee is having a historic season as the No.1 team for the first time ever I believe.

As I reported the other night, the Tigers were effectively eliminated from the ACC Tournament with their 9-2 loss to UNC, but if they can knock off the Hokies tonight, the Tigers deserve an NCAA bid in my opinion. The selection committee might screw them because they don't want to give 10 or 11 bids to one conference, but the ACC has had 12 teams ranked this season, so I don't think it should matter how many bids they get if the teams are deserving.

It will also be interesting to see if Max Wagner bounces back from his 0-4 game with 4 K's the other night and ties or breaks Khalil Greene's Clemson single-season HR record.

Monte decided to go with freshman Sunday starter Billy Barlow on the mound instead of Saturday starter Geoffrey Gilbert, who won his last 2 starts, including at No.9 UVA. I'm sure we'll see Gilbert at some point out of the bullpen, though.

The Tigers are the home team tonight unlike Tuesday night.
