The Noles fired Mike Martin, Jr. the other day after 3 seasons. The longtime assistant was the heir apparent to his legendary father, who is the winningest coach of all time. I covered the game in Clemson when he set the record. The Tigers won the other 2 games of the series!

Why is that germane to Clemson? Well, I wrote after Monte Lee was fired that Notre Dame's head coach would probably be on the short list of candidates, and I would love for him to get the job after the job he has done in South Bend. The Irish shocked the college baseball world on Sunday by knocking No.1 Tennessee out of its own Super Regional to advance to the CWS. And the Irish had Miss State on the ropes in their Super last year, but the Irish blew a big lead in the clinching game, and the Cowbells went on to win their first natty.

Unfortunately, Notre Dame's head coach played at FSU, so if he leaves South Bend, it will most likely be for his alma mater. Stay tuned for the latest!
