Rubber match in Columbia is at 1:30! The Tigers had the series-clinching win in their grasp yesterday but let a 3-run lead and late 4-run lead slip away thanks to walks and hit batters by the bull pen. They had just 3 of those on Friday night and 10 yesterday, leading to several runs. That also woke up the Gamecocks' offense, which had been stifled for just 2 runs over 14 innings by the Tigers! The loss snapped a 5-game win streak over the Gamecocks. Caden Grice was ejected in the 9th inning yesterday for arguing a called strike 3. He also complained about a low strike 3 call in his first at bat. No one seemed to know yesterday whether he would be eligible for today's game. If he is, Bakich told me that he was a candidate to get his first start on the mound. He has not pitched yet this season. Because of the late basketball game last night, I will not be in Columbia for this game for the first time in 8 years, but I'll have live updates at 1:30 right here! |
