The Tigers open the ACC Tournament against the Hokies, who they swept up in Blacksburg just a couple weeks ago. The Hokies lost to Boston College yesterday, so tonight's game is meaningless in terms of the Tigers' ACC Tournament. Win or lose tonight, the Tigers will have to beat BC on Friday morning in order to advance to the Semifinal. However, tonight's game is huge for the Tigers' case for a top 8 national seed! I believe a win tonight will lock up a top 8 seed for the Tigers. Even if they lose to BC on Friday and are knocked out of the tournament, they would have won 13 of their last 14 games and 18 of their last 20. A top 8 seed, of course, means that they would host both the Regional and Super Regional, giving them home field until the World Series.

Durham is a lucky stadium for the Tigers. They swept through and won their last ACC Tournament title there in 2016, earning a top 8 national seed in Monte Lee's first season!

Wow, Joe Allen will get the start on the mound. Like I said, this game is meaningless toward the ACC Tournament, and that's why Bakich is giving him the start, saving his weekend starters in the hopes of making a run at the title this weekend. It's just the 4th start for Allen. His last was against Upstate, when he went 2 scoreless innings with 2 hits, a walk and 2 K's.

Freshman Jacob Jarrell will be behind the plate tonight with Ingle in right. The Tigers will bat first.

Hokies' starting pitcher is the brother of former Clemson catcher Adam Hackenberg. Another brother was Penn State QB Christian Hackenberg, 2nd round pick by the Jets.
