CLEMSON, S.C. - Reese Basinger struck out eight in 5.0 innings and Brooke McCubbin pitched 2.0 scoreless in relief as the Tigers (10-6) picked up their seventh-straight victory and handed No. 10/11 Georgia (14-1) its first loss of the year with a final score of 5-3. Wednesday’s victory marked the first time since May 13, 2022 the Tigers defeated a top-10 opponent. Alex Brown led the offense with two hits and picked up an RBI alongside Macey Cintron, Julia Knowler and Jamison Brockenbrough each recorded an RBI. Brown doubled down the right field line to lead things and was joined on the bases by Maddie Moore with a walk. A fielder’s choice put runners on the corners for Macey Cintron, who delivered a double through the middle to put the Tigers up 1-0 after the first. Knowler doubled the Tigers’ lead in the third by driving a 3-1 pitch 80 mph and 256 feet into The Deep End. Georgia threatened in the next half, after a double and a passed ball put a runner on third with two outs, but with the count full, Basinger got a huge swing and a miss for her seventh strikeout of the game to keep the Bulldogs scoreless. In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Ava Wilson walked and advanced to second on a Sam Minish sac bunt, to set the table for Brockenbrough to bring her home on a single to right field to make it 3-0. The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the fifth after two consecutive doubles plated one, and a two-run homer drew them even. After a leadoff single in the top of the sixth, Clemson called on McCubbin. A walk put runners on first and second, but a fielder’s choice, strikeout and another fielder’s choice ended the scoring threat to keep things level. In the bottom, pinch hitter Haylee Whitesides laced a double to right center. Kennedy Ariail came in to pinch run and advanced to third as Minish singled to center and advanced to second on a throw home that held Ariail up at third. Brockenbrough came to the plate with two in scoring position and flew out to center field, but an errant throw home allowed Ariail to come home and send Minish to third. Brown grounded one through the gap on the right side of the infield to score Minish and give the Tigers some insurance. It sent the Tigers to the top of the seventh with a 5-3 lead. Following a popout and a strikeout, Georgia hit a single and advanced to second to bring the tying run to the plate. Moore fielded a grounder and tossed it to Knowler to secure the Tigers’ first ranked win since April 9, 2024. Up Next Clemson is back at home this weekend for a three-day homestand against Lafayette, East Carolina and Indiana during the Tiger Invitational. Action is slated to begin on Friday against Lafayette (12:30 p.m.) and East Carolina (3 p.m.). Action is slated to be streamed on ACCNX for both games in a single-camera pass through with the home plate camera being the only camera available due to both of Clemson’s broadcast booths being utilized to broadcast home baseball against South Carolina at 7 p.m. and a home gymnastics tri-meet against New Hampshire and Texas Women’s at 5 p.m. These are the final two one-camera pass-through ACCNX broadcasts with announcers the Tigers will have this season at the softball field, while the same will occur at baseball (March 8), gymnastics (March 14) and lacrosse (April 17).
