Well, here we are again. Another year is in the book as far as the regular season is concerned and post season baseball is upon us. I can't think of a better time of the year than the end of May going into June. As always, controversy always comes with it and this year is no different. I am not sure why but it always seems to involve the ACC. I have no issue playing competition. That is why there are 56 games scheduled during the season. I have no problem with teams from other conferences that earn their way into post season play. As we have seen, that hasn't been the case when it comes to the SEC. I can go back to last year as an example. Florida had no business being in the tournament. I know, I know they got in and made it to Omaha and that justifies the committee selection. That is far from the truth. Florida took advantage of the opportunity that was handed to them, not earned. A 29-28 record with a 13-17 record in conference play doesn't come close to earning a spot in post-season play. If you give anyone else Florida schedule that doesn't wear the ESECPN logo on their jersey, that team doesn't come close to sniffing the tournament last year. Fast forward to this year and we have the same scenario with Kentucky. At some point we have to stop punishing teams for winning and rewarding teams for losing. That's exactly what we have when it comes to the SEC conference. As honest as I am, I don't understand why we should play teams anymore from the SEC for this reason. If you beat teams from the SEC, it is like the wins don't count and if you flip flop it, the SEC gets rewarded for losing those games. The Tigers deserved every bit of a top 8 seed. Maybe the #8 seed but they earned it. Their body of work and RPI supports it. As we saw, their seeding was totally based on the last 3 1/2 weeks of the season. I must admit, it wasn't pretty but that is baseball. If you take a look at Florida, the committee forgot that Florida lost 11 straight SEC games to start conference play. It is like those 11 games didn't exist. Kentucky is almost in the same boat. A losing record in conference play and one and done in the SEC tournament and they get a free pass. Then the committee got a sense of humor and matched the Tigers of Clemson up with the LSU regional. Lets see, Tennesee managed to get put in the Clemson regional 3 years ago, Florida in Clemson last Year and to keep from having to face backlash for putting a team that didn't belong back in Clemson, they decided to hose Clemson for the Super Regionals instead. Again this is also predicated on the home team winning their regional. Regardless it is still a bad job by the committee. This has nothing to do with teams in general but what was earned vs what is being given to these teams. At some point JIm Phillips is going to have to push back against the propaganda. There should be three teams in the top 8 for the ACC. North Carolina was seeded correctly, Clemson and FSU were screwed. I know Coach Bakich will tell you anytime, anywhere lets go play and I agree with that. I will also tell you at some point, you have to reap the rewards of your season. We all know the SEC reaps the benefits. I have often said if 13 wins in conference play for the SEC is all it takes to make postseason play, then why play a 56 game schedule. Just go and play conference games until you reach win #13 and take the rest of the season off. The Tigers have the talent to get to Omaha. Reed Garris should be back to help out in the bullpen but one has to wonder how rusty he will be coming off of the layoff. Darden should be back as well but again how rusty will he be with the layoff. With everything that I have said, I still like the Tigers chances. There is just something about this team that just over a month ago was the #2 team in the country. Along the way they lost their identity and from an observation, stopped having fun. It is a new season and hopefully the team that was ranked #2 a month ago can find itself between now and Friday it could really be a fun postseason. At least we can hope!!!!!!!! Lets the games begin, lets go have fun, get back to who we know the Tigers can be, and win this thing!!!!! |

Chris, I told you that they would not be top 8 after the UNC blowout. They don't have a gripe after the way they finished the season. If they had beaten UNC, they would have been top 8. And they shouldn't have lost the Duke series at home. FSU got hosed more than Clemson, getting the No.9 seed. Anyway, the Tigers were top 8 the last 2 years and didn't make it to Omaha, so maybe this will be a good thing. They could still host the Super if LSU is upset. If not, hopefully they will beat LSU in their own house! |

The sec bias is ridiculous, but I agree with Trevor on this one. We sputtered down the stretch and probably didn't deserve top 8. Especially getting blown out by unc in our last game. Go Tigers! |

So lets base the seeding off the last 3 weeks of the season versus the whole season. Its hypocrisy at its best when you look at Florida and how they were in talks to be a host yet started the season 1-11 in conference play. Its like their start to the season didn't happen. In the end the injuries in the bullpen ended up costing the Tigers and that is just something you have to deal with. I do agree that FSU got the bad end of the deal. What gets me is that 4 of the 13 teams from the SEC had losing records in conference play and still got in. We saw it last year with Florida. Trevor and I have argued over this and I stand firm. Florida should have never been given the opportunity to play in post season last year. I don't care that they reached Omaha. Granted they took advantage of the opportunity but they didn't earn the right to even have that chance. I have said you give anyone else that doesn't wear the SEC logo the same schedule Florida had last year and let them end up with the same identical record, that said team doesn't sniff the tournament. At some point we have to stop punishing teams for winning and rewarding teams for losing. If 13 games is the criteria in conference play, I don't see the need to play a 56 game schedule. Go straight to conference play, get your 13 wins and wait for the invitation. That is the message that is being sent. Appreciate the feed back but the last 3 weeks of the Tigers season is all it takes to base their seeding, then why play the first 2 1/2 to 3 months of the season if it isn't going to be taken into consideration come selection time!
