Beer drew a 2-out walk on a full count but nothing else for the Tigers in the 1st.

Ugh Hennessy gives up a leadoff walk and a homer to start the game. Bad start!

Hennessy follows the homer with back to back singles but then gets 3 consecutive outs. It's super cold in South Bend. Must have needed more warm up time!

Wilkie, Cromwell and Wharton go 1-2-3 in the 2nd.

Byrd leadoff single! He hit a homer the other night against Coastal. Brings up freshman Kier Meredith for his first career at bat in his first start in center field! Davidson on deck.

Meredith walks! Great start for him. 2 on with no outs for Davidson!

Davidson ground out moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one out for Greene, who was moved all the way up to the 2 hole. He's been hot lately, but I wish Beer were batting 2nd right now like usual!

GREENE DELIVERS!!! Sac fly makes it 2-1. RISP with 2 outs for Beer.

Wharton one-out single after Williams strikes out. One on for Cromwell.

Cromwell hard hit ground ball right at 1st base. Man on 1st with 2 outs for Wilkie, who struck out his first time up.

Cromwell caught stealing 2nd to end the inning.

Hennessy gives up a leadoff walk in the 4th. He's given up a leadoff runner 3 out of 4 innings.

Ugh 2-out double puts Irish up 3-1. Those leadoff walks kill you every time! They have cost the Tigers 2 runs today, and that's the difference in the score.

BYRD SOLO HOMER!!! His 5th of the season and 2nd in 2 games! Tigers trail 3-2 with one out in 5th.

MEREDITH TRIPLE!!! That might be the Tigers' first triple of the season. What a debut for the freshman! Tying run on 3rd with one out for Davidson.

Ugh Meredith thrown out at the plate tagging. Opportunity to tie lost,

UGH Cromwell strikes out swinging on a full count to strand the tying and go-ahead runs. He is 0-3 today.

Meredith bunt single! He's 2-2 with a triple and a walk in his Clemson debut! 2 on with one out for Davidson.

Davidson walks the bases loaded with one out! Ugh I wish Monte had left Beer in the 2 hole! Greene up with Beer on deck. Hopefully Greene can draw a game tying walk here.

UGH Greene infield fly! Should have been Beer up with one out. 2 outs now for Beer with the tying run on 3rd and go ahead run on 2nd.

TIGERS TRAIL 3-2 AT THE STRETCH.

 

Hennessy gives up a leadoff single after going 1-2-3 the last 2 innings.

Hennessy gets the first 2 outs and Spiers comes in from the pen with a man on 2nd.

Good grief Spiers gives up an RBI single to his first batter to make it 4-2. These pitchers are clearly taking too long to warm up in this cold weather. 

Spiers gets an infield fly, but it's one batter too late.

TIGERS TRAIL 4-2 AFTER 7.

Williams leadoff single for his first hit of the day! Boy, we could have used that at the end of the last inning. Wharton up with Cromwell on deck.

Wharton strikes out swinging. One on with one out for Cromwell.

Cromwell reaches for the first time with a walk! Interesting to see if Monte will have Wilkie bunt the runners over to put the tying run on 2nd for Byrd, who homered and walked today. You've also got Meredith in the hole, and he's 2-2 with a walk and a triple!

Wilkie walks em loaded! Second straight inning the Tigers have had bases loaded with one out. They've GOT to pay this one off! Red-hot Meredith is on deck.

Good grief Byrd strikes out looking. Unacceptable! 2 outs for Meredith. Talk about a pressure situation for the freshman in his Clemson debut!

UGH Tigers robbed by a terrible strike call on a 3-1 pitch. Pitch was outside for ball 4. Meredith then struck out swinging on the full count. Second straight inning the Tigers squander bases loaded one out, but that one was on the ump. Meredith had reached base all 3 times in his debut, and the ump robbed him of a 4th.

TIGERS TRAIL 4-2 M8.

Spiers gives up a leadoff single, but he's thrown out going for 2.

Spiers gets a K for the 2nd out, and Schnell comes in from the pen.

Lol Schnell's first batter hits a homer. All 3 pitchers have had horrible starts in this col weather. They have each given up runs within their first 2 batters--2 of them have been homers.

Schnell gives up a single and then picks off the runner to end the inning.

TIGERS TRAIL 5-2 HEADED TO THE 9TH.

Davidson strikes out looking, Greene walks. Where was that walk with the bases loaded?!

Beer singles. 2 on for Williams, who singled last time. Game-tying homer here would be nice! He did it a few weeks ago at Coastal.

Williams flies out. Tigers down to final out with corners for Wharton, who struck out last time.

Wharton grounds out to end the game. Ends a 4-game win streak for the Tigers, who won 7 of their last 8. Too many wasted opportunities, and the Irish made the most of theirs. Tigers stranded 12 base runners and failed to score after twice loading the bases with one out. Doubleheader tomorrow begins at 11:00.

TIGERS LOSE 5-2.
