OFFICIAL GAME 3 THREAD: #5 CLEMSON vs #13 Florida State

CUTrevor 2018-05-07 13:15:45

Big rubber match tonight at 7:00! Tigers have a 2-game lead on NC State in the Atlantic Division and 3.5 games on FSU. It's also big for the Tigers' hopes of getting a top-8 national seed. Tigers are #2 in the Power Five with 71 HR's, #3 overall, 3 behind Arkansas. They are also #3 in offensive walks! Williams is tied for 11th with 14 HR's and Beer is 13th with 13 HR's. Only 2 other duos have combined for as many.

Sunday starter Jake Higginbotham will be on the mound. Spiers only threw 25 pitches yesterday, so hopefully he will be available out of the pen. Maybe Ryan Miller will as well, having pitched a few innings on Saturday. Closer Ryley Gilliam will not be available after throwing a career-high 92 pitches in the 13-inning game on Saturday. Game will be televised on ESPN2.

As expected, Meredith will sit out again. Same lineup as last night. Davidson leadoff, Wilkie 2nd, then Beer and Williams.

Leggett is here again to take in the rubber match with his old nemesis.

Tigers had to make do without Clemson LIFE graduate Zach Buchanan tonight. The back flip helped!

Reply
CUTrevor 2018-05-07 19:29:32

Very bizarre. They were going to intentionally walk Raleigh like I though they should, but they tried to forego the 4 pitches like they are allowed to do in the MLB. After a discussion among the umps, they determined you are not allowed to do that in college, so they made Raleigh come back to the batter's box. As if that wasn't weird enough, the Tigers decided NOT to intentionally walk him after that whole episode!

CLEMSON, S.C. - Jordan Greene hit a walkoff solo homer in the ninth inning to lift No. 5 Clemson to a 5-4 win over No. 13 Florida State at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Monday night. The Tigers, who won the series 2-1, improved to 36-12 overall and 19-8 in the ACC. The Seminoles fell to 32-16 overall and 14-12 in ACC play.

Greene's walkoff homer was the first by a Tiger since Seth Beer hit a walkoff solo homer against Boston College in Clemson's 3-2 win over Boston College on March 20, 2016. With the win, Clemson clinched a top-four seed in the ACC Tournament.

Logan Davidson belted an opposite-field, two-run homer, his ninth long ball of the season, in the third inning, then Florida State answered with an unearned run in the fourth inning and three unearned runs in the fifth inning thanks to two costly Tiger errors.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Seth Beer lined an opposite-field, two-run homer, his 14th home run of the year, on an 0-2 pitch to tie the score 4-4. After Sam Hall made a diving, inning-ending catch to save a run in the top of the ninth inning, Greene hit the first pitch of his at-bat with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning over the fence in left field for his fifth homer of the season to win the game.

Carson Spiers (2-2) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings to earn the win, while Conor Grady (4-3) suffered the loss.

The Tigers continue their homestand when Western Carolina comes to town on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., on ACC Network Extra. Fans can purchase a ticket for only $2.
