CLEMSON, SC - You couldn't have asked for better weather in February for the Lady Tigers' home opener on Friday, with sunshine and temperatures in the low 70's, and it was a great crowd at McWhorter Stadium as well despite the early 3:00 start. Valerie Cagle was in the circle and did not disappoint, going 5 scoreless innings with 3 hits against a Boston team that beat UGA this season and blew out Akron 15-0 in their first game on Friday.
Offensively, Marissa Guimbarda got things started with a leadoff HR in the 2nd. It was her 2nd in consecutive games and 3rd in a week! Freshman Aby Vieira from California would drive in another run with a single to make it 2-0 after 2 innings. The score would remain that way until the 5th when the Tigers went on a scoring spree. With no outs, Clark drove in 2 with a single and Cagle drove in one with a double. Then with just one out, Pereira singled in a 4th run of the inning, and Logoleo hit a walk-off HR to make it 8-0 and invoke the mercy rule! Pereira was 3-3 with an RBI and is batting .419 on the season. Logoleo went 2-3 with the walk-off HR and 2 RBI's. She is batting .323 this season. Cagle was 1-3 with a double and an RBI, dropping her average to a feeble .389.
The Tigers will play again on Friday at 5:00 against Saint Francis, and they'll play a doubleheader on Saturday. I'll have post-game interviews later tonight. Click the link below for more!
