CLEMSON, SC - It was a rough week for the Tigers, having lost 6-1 to Georgia State on Tuesday and dropping the first two games against No.23 Miami, but their bats finally woke up on Sunday.
They jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st thanks to a leadoff HR by Blackwell. They added another run in the 2nd when Blackwell singled to drive in Brewer, who walked and advanced on a Brock single.
The Tigers broke the game open with 6 runs in the 3rd thanks to singles by Ingle, Wagner, Grice, Brewer and Blackwell with a couple walks as well. It was the third straight inning that Blackwell drove in a run. I guess he likes that leadoff spot! He had done a good job hitting in the 9 hole all season until Monte moved him up to leadoff on Friday.
That gave the Tigers a comfortable 8-0 lead through 3 innings. Clayton gave up a run in the 4th on a 2-out sacrifice, but the Tigers answered with 2 more runs in the bottom half on a leadoff double by Hawkins and a HR by Wagner to make it 10-1. it was Wagner's 5th HR of the season to lead the team.
Corbitt added a 2-run HR in the 5th, his first of the season, and another HR in the 8th! Brewer also homered in the 8th as a part of an 8-run avalanche to make the final score 20-5. Lindley got the win out of the pen, improving to 4-0 on the season. Clayton should have gotten the win, but he was pulled with 2 outs in the 5th. The Tigers had a big lead, and Clayton would have been out of the inning if not for an error. I would have personally let him try to close the inning to get the W, but Monte decided to make the change to Lindley.
In all, the Tigers finished with 20 hits and 7 walks with 5 HR's. Blackwell hit his first HR since the season opener, Brewer hit his 2nd, Wagner hit his team-leading 5th and Corbitt hit his first 2 of the season. It was the third time this season that the Tigers have scored 19 or more runs.
They are now 15-4 on the season and will play two midweek games this week against Coastal on Tuesday and Winthrop on Wednesday before making their first ACC road trip at Pitt next weekend.
