CLEMSON, SC - The Lady Tigers were coming off a dominant road sweep of UNC over the weekend and hosted Furman for a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a bases-loaded walk by Guimbarda, but the upset-minded Paladins took a 2-1 lead in the 4th on a 2-out HR off of Cagle. That score would hold until the bottom of the 7th when Cagle walked on 4 pitches with 2 outs, and Guimbarda hit a walk-off HR for the 3-2 win. It was Guimbarda's 5th HR in the last 3 games, and she passed Cagle for the team lead with 10 on the season! The ACC Co-Player of the Week drove in all 3 runs for the Tigers.
The Tigers carried that momentum into the second half of the doubleheader and left no doubt, shutting out the Paladins 8-0 with sophomore Millie Thompson in the circle. Cagle drove in the first run in the 1st, Oda added a 2-run HR in the 2nd, the first of her career, and the Tigers scored 5 more runs in the 3rd for the 5-inning shutout. Thompson, who improved to 8-1 on the season, was absolutely dominant in the circle, coming just shy of a 5-inning perfect game. The only base runner she allowed was the first batter of the game, who reached on an error.
It was the 15th shutout and 10th run-rule win for the Tigers this season. They travel to Pitt this weekend, hoping to improve on their 6-6 ACC record.
