CLEMSON, SC - After getting robbed last year, the Tigers have locked up their first NCAA Regional host site. Rittman told me both after the VA Tech win and the FSU loss that he believes they deserve a top-8 national seed, but I will be shocked if the Selection Committee gives it to them. Their RPI was No.11 before beating No.19 Notre Dame and No.2 VA Tech, and they were 5 outs away from knocking off No.3 FSU for the ACC Championship, so you can certainly make the case that they are one of the 8 best teams, but I think the committee will penalize them for not getting it done against FSU yesterday. We shall see!
You can watch live on ESPN2 at 7:00! I'll have interviews with Rittman and players posted here afterwards as well.
As I expected, the Tigers just missed a top-8 national seed, but at least they'll host their first Regional as the No.10 seed! They will welcome Auburn, Louisiana and UNC Wilmington to Tiger Town this weekend, and I'll be at McWhorter Stadium to bring you live coverage! The Tigers will open with UNC Wilmington at noon on Friday on ACCN.
ESPN hasn't revealed the entire bracket yet, but I presume the No.10 seed will play No.7 in the Super Regional, so that means the Tigers would have to travel to Stillwater to play Oklahoma State unless the Pokes are upset in their regional. They shocked the world by beating No.1 Oklahoma, the Defending National Champ, in the Big 12 Tournament the other day.
CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson softball team will host an NCAA Regional for the first time in program history as the 16 host sites for the 2022 postseason were revealed on Sunday. The Tigers were selected as the No. 10 national seed and will host games at McWhorter Stadium beginning on Friday, May 22.
The Tigers (39-15) are the No. 1 seed in the Clemson Regional and set to face UNC Wilmington (32-13) in their opening game of the double-elimination regional on Friday at noon. The Auburn Tigers (39-15) will play Louisiana (45-11) following the game and will play at 2:30 p.m.
The winner of the Clemson Regional will move onto the best-of-three NCAA Super Regional, May 27-29, against the winner of the Stillwater Regional. The Women’s College World Series will be played in Oklahoma City, Okla., June 3-10.
Clemson has been selected to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years after earning the No. 2 seed in the 2021 Tuscaloosa Regional. The Tigers were the ACC tournament runner-up dropping the title game, 8-6, to the No. 2 national seed Florida State Seminoles on Saturday.
Clemson was one of six ACC schools selected to the NCAA Tournament, joining No. 2 FSU, No. 3 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Duke, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech.
