CLEMSON, SC - It was an electric atmosphere on a breezy but scorching day at McWhorter Stadium for the first-ever Clemson NCAA Softball Regional, with temperatures in the mid 90's. As it turned out, Thompson's pitching and the Tigers' hitting were equally scorching. Rittman decided to give sophomore Millie Thompson the ball first for the third straight weekend, and she was once again superb. She did not allow a hit or a walk in the 5-inning shutout, and she was just 2 hit batters from pitching a perfect game. One barely grazed the batter's uniform, and the other turned her shoulder into the pitch.
Rittman said he was impressed with UNC Wilmington's pitching this season, but the Tigers jumped all over their pitcher in the 1st inning, batting around the lineup. Leadoff batter Cammy Pereira got it all started with a single, and Clark doubled to put the Tigers on the board. Ironically, Cagle and Guimbarda struck out, but freshman catcher Aby Vieira hit a clutch 2-out single to make it 2-0, and red-hot Logoleo hit her team-leading HR of the season. It was her 4th homer in as many games! The Tigers scored 6 runs in the 1st, and 5 of them came with 2 outs. They added 2 more in the 3rd and another in the 4th for the 9-0 final. Clark was 3-3 with 2 RBI's. She is 7 for her last 7 with 4 RBI's! Logloleo had 3 RBI's.
It was the Tigers' 13th run-rule win of the season and 18th shutout! They will play the winner of Auburn and Louisiana on Saturday at 1:00. Post-game interviews are below!
