STILLWATER, OK - Sophomore Millie Thompson delivered another great performance in the circle on Thursday night, but the Cowgirls' offense was just a little bit better with the home crowd behind them. I knew it would be a low-scoring series, as the Tigers have the No.3 team ERA in the Power Five, and Oklahoma State is No.5. Cagle and Guimbarda had the Tigers' only 2 hits against Maxwell in the complete-game shutout. Thompson shut out the Cowgirls through 4 innings, but she allowed the Tigers' first 2 runs of the NCAA Tournament in the 5th after a leadoff double, a walk and a single. The Cowgirls threatened to score more when a double gave them runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out, but Thompson was able to get out of the inning with a fantastic Willie-Mays-style catch by Logoleo at short and a strikeout. Freshman catcher Aby Vieira also made a sensational, diving catch on a fouled bunt and threw a runner out stealing 2nd, so the Tigers played a superb game defensively, but they were just unable to find enough hits against Maxwell despite several hard-hit outs.
It's do-or-die for the Tigers now, as they face elimination on Friday night at 9:00 ET on ESPN2. If they win that game, they will force a rubber match on Saturday with the winner going to the College World Series in Oklahoma City.
