CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers were coming off a convincing win over Wake in their ACC opener and had a late 9:00 challenge against an 8-1 Towson team that will likely make the NCAA Tournament. It was a tight, hard-fought game throughout. The Tigers led by 2 at the half, and it was a 3-point game with 1:48 left. However, the Tigers made a couple big plays down the stretch, including a charge drawn by Chase Hunter, and stretched the lead to 9 with 26 seconds left. However, the Tigers missed 3 of 6 free throws down the stretch, and Towson made a last-second 3-pointer to make the final score 80-75. It was a good win against an NCAA caliber team! It's nice to see the Tigers gut out a couple close ones at home in the last week after both their losses came on the final possession on the road.
Hall started his 3rd straight game and played 28 minutes, the most all season, scoring 22 points. It was his 3rd straight game over 20 points! He is not 100% from a health and conditioning standpoint yet, but he is getting there. He is still struggling on the defensive end and with his rebounding. Tyson added 20 points, and Hemenway scored 15, going all 40 minutes. He had an acrobatic 3-point play that was a huge momentum changer at a pivotal point in the game. The Tigers shot a whopping 61 percent (14-23) from 3! The bad news is they continued their sloppy first-half play with 9 turnovers. They cleaned it up in the second half with only 4 after the break. They also didn't rebound well.
The Tigers are now 8-2 (1-0 ACC) and play another tough NCAA team in Loyola-Chicago next in Atlanta on Saturday.
