CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers swept Syracuse over the weekend to begin ACC play, but they only won 1-0 on Sunday, so they decided to make an offensive statement against Mercer on Wednesday night in front of a great crowd at McWhorter Stadium. They wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st after a solo HR by Maddie Moore and a 2-run single by Logoleo. That was just the tip of the iceberg, though. Moore homered in her next at bat in the 2nd, giving her 6 on the season, and the Tigers added 4 more runs in the inning to make it 9-0. They didn't stop there, either, scoring 6 runs again in the 3rd and 3 in the 4th to make it 18-0! Logoleo hit her 3rd homer of the season, and Rittman emptied his bench, playing almost everyone on the roster with no drop off in production. It was all clicking for the Tigers, as several dying quails dropped safely in the outfield for hit after hit, 17 total in just 4 innings!
Cagle was equally impressive in the circle, throwing the first perfect game in program history, albeit in 5 innings. She had 7 K's, improving to 9-1 on the season, and reached base all 4 times at the plate with a double and a single.
It was the Tigers' 8th run-rule win of the season. They are now 21-1, losing only 1-0 to No.9 Tennessee in Florida, and seemingly have no weaknesses. They are No.2 nationally in ERA, No.4 in fielding percentage (which was somewhat of a weakness last season), top 10 in HR's and top 10 in batting average! They are even top 25 in stolen bases. It is a winning machine!
The Tigers will host the Clemson Classic tournament this weekend. My exclusive post-game interviews with Rittman, Cagle and Moore are below!
