GREENSBORO, NC - Well, the last two days of the ACC Tournament pretty much summed up this season for the Tigers. They could do no wrong in the Quarterfinal against NC State on Thursday, and all the shots were falling, but nothing was falling 24 hours later against No.2 seed UVA in the Semi. The Hoos played one of their best games of the season as well, putting on an absolute clinic on both ends of the court. The game in Charlottesville a couple weeks ago was much closer than this one.
This was a bad last look for the Selection Committee, but it was still the ACC Semifinal, and UVA was the No.2 seed. It doesn't erase the absolute beat down of NC State by the Tigers the night before. In fact, the Tigers blew out NC State in all 3 meetings by a combined 65 points, and all the bracketologists have State firmly in the NCAA field. And two of those blowouts were away from home in the last two weeks! The Tigers also had the same overall record as State and finished ahead of them in the ACC standings at 3rd. I'm pretty sure a 3rd place ACC team has NEVER been left out of the NCAA Tourney, and I don't see how anyone in his right mind could give State a bid without also giving one to Clemson.
Nevertheless, I'm sure Brownell and the team will be sweating out Selection Sunday! It was a very somber locker room after the game. I hope they will have something to celebrate on Sunday! Post-game interviews are below.
