CLEMSON, SC - It was a low-scoring series compared to what the Tigers are used to with the nation's No.7 scoring offense, but with the No.2 team ERA and No.4 fielding percentage, they demonstrated that they can just as easily win the pitchers' duels with only 12 total hits in the 3-game series.
With Friday's game rained out, they played a doubleheader on Saturday. The Tigers won the first game 4-1 with Millie Thompson in the circle. Cagle drove in the first run in the 3rd inning, and Jacobsen followed with a big 2-run double to make it 3-0. Clark also had an RBI, and red-hot Reedy Davenport had half the Tigers' hits! She was 2-3 at the plate and is batting .413 on the season. Not bad for the last bat in the lineup! Thompson improved to 9-0 on the season with a 0.95 ERA, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks with 5 K's.
The second half of Saturday's doubleheader was even more of a pitchers' duel, but Cagle doesn't lose many of those! The Tigers were actually out-hit by the Hoos 3-2, but the hits came at the right time. After a leadoff single by Miklesh in the 3rd, Davenport bunted her to 3rd, and Clark sac flied her in for the game's only run. Cagle pitched another complete game, allowing just 3 base runners with no walks.
Highlights and our post-game interviews are below!
On Sunday, the Tigers matched their hit total from the first two games with 6, and Logoleo had half of them. She was 3-3 at the plate and had the big hit with the bases loaded in the 1st to score the only 2 runs of the game. That was all Cagle would need in the circle. She pitched another scoreless, complete game, improving to 13-1 on the season with a 0.49 ERA. The Tigers' offense was somewhat subdued this weekend, posting just 12 combined hits, but they scored when they had to, and the pitching and defense continued to be phenomenal. They have the nation's No.2 ERA and No.4 fielding percentage, so that will win a lot of low-scoring games! The Tigers are now 29-1 overall, 6-0 in the ACC and have won 27 straight at home. It's Spring Break, so they have the next few days off before playing their first ACC road series at GT on Friday.
My post-game interviews with Rittman and Logoleo are below!
