CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers bounced back from frustrating back-to-back losses to No.2 Wake in which they had the tying and winning runs on base in the 9th inning. Their offense exploded on Tuesday for a 16-6 win over No.17 Coastal Carolina, which beat that same Wake team as well as UNC this season.
It was the Tigers' first-ever win under the new run rule, and the Tigers posted 15 hits and 9 walks in just 7 innings! Grice was 2-3 with a double, a walk and 4 RBI's. Amick was 3-4 with the Tigers' only HR, Cannarella was 2-4 with 3 RBI's and Bertram was 3-5 with 2 RBI's. All 10 hitters reached base, and every starter except for Wright had a hit. Hoffmann managed to get the win out of the pen even though he allowed 3 hits, a walk and 2 runs in just 2 innings pitched. He improved to 3-1 on the season, but he has a 7.16 ERA.
This was a big win for the Tigers' resume--second only to the win over the Gamecocks--and will hopefully give them some confidence and momentum going into their road series at FSU this weekend. The Seminoles are struggling this season with a 12-16 record and are ripe for the Tigers' first ACC series win. It will also be a homecoming for Clemson Pitching Coach Jimmy Belanger, who should know most of the Noles' hitters' strengths and weaknesses.
