CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers won their second straight ACC series with a 6-4 win over Notre Dame on Sunday. It was a tight, back-and-forth game from the beginning. With Caden Grice on the mound, the Irish took a 1-0 lead in the 1st on a 2-out double, but the Tigers tied it in the bottom half with singles by Cannarella, Ingle and Taylor. It looked like a perfectly executed hit and run on Ingle's single, but Bakich admitted to me after the game that it was just a well-timed straight steal that resulted in Cannarella getting to 3rd on Ingle's single through the right side. The Irish retook the lead 2-1 in the 2nd on another 2-out hit, but the Tigers scored 2 runs in the bottom half to take their first lead 3-2. Amick led off with a double, and Bissetta knocked him in with a double. It was just his second hit of the season. Cannarella drove in the other run on a sac grounder.

The Irish tied the game 3-3 in the 5th when Weiss came in from the pen and gave up a sac bunt for the score. The Tigers answered in the bottom half once again on a double by Ingle and a sac fly by Grice to take a 4-3 lead. Casey Tallent made his return from injury in the 7th but gave up a leadoff walk and a single. Clayton came in from the pen and after a sac bunt, struck out the next two batters but not before a 2-out wild pitch tied the game 4-4. The Tigers responded once again in the bottom half with a leadoff single and a huge 2-out double by Amick to retake the lead. Amick wasn't expected to be a regular starter this season, but since his walk-off grand slam to beat GA State, he has emerged as one of the Tigers' best hitters. He was 3-4 with 2 doubles today, including the game-winner. In 4 games this week, he had 8 hits, 4 doubles and 2 HR's! Bertram followed Amick's double with another 2-out double to make it 6-4, and Clayton was able to shut down the Irish for the win. The former weekend starter has been the Tigers' most reliable option out of the pen for the last few weeks, and his ERA is down to 1.59! Bakich told me after the game that Ammons was hot in the pen just in case they needed him, but we'll have to wait another game before he makes his first appearance since late February.
The Tigers host UGA next on Tuesday. They beat the Bulldogs 8-1 in Athens last week. My post-game interviews are below!
