The Tigers continued their push for a top-8 national seed with a 9-6 win at VA Tech for the road sweep on Sunday. The Tigers seized early momentum with a 2-out single by Bertram to take a 2-0 lead. He had a huge series with 6 hits, 6 RBI's and 5 walks. However, Grice gave up a run in the bottom half and 2 runs in the 2nd to give the Hokies a 3-2 lead.
The Tigers responded once again in the following inning with 4 runs, and Grice helped himself out with a sac RBI in the 4th to give the Tigers a 7-3 lead. Ingle hit a 2-out HR on full count in the 6th, extending the lead to 8-3. He was 2-5 and extended his on-base streak to 46 games. Grice left the mound in the 6th after walking the leadoff man on full count, and Bailey gave up a 2-out single to make it 8-4. Amick hit a solo HR in the 7th, his 10th of the season, to make it 9-4, and the Hokies scored 2 runs in the bottom half on a single off Olenchuk and a throwing error by Grice, but Garris and Tallent were able to close the books on the Hokies for the 9-6 win.
The red-hot Tigers have won 13 of their last 14 and 12 of their last 13 away from home! It was their 3rd ACC sweep in 4 series, with 2 coming on the road. They host Upstate on Tuesday in a payback game and then wrap up the regular season at home against UNC beginning on Thursday! If the Tigers can take care of business at home, they sit in excellent shape to secure a top-8 national seed with a good showing in the ACC Tournament.
