CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers lost to Upstate 6-3 in Greenville back in late February, but this is a totally different Clemson team now. The Tigers had no trouble with the upstart Upstate team at Doug Kingsmore on Tuesday night. The Tigers jumped out to a double by Ingle, singles by Taylor and Grice and a sac fly by Amick, who drove in 2 more runs with a 2-out single in the 3rd to make it 4-0. The Tigers have done an amazing job coming up with 2-out RBI's during this win streak!
Upstate scored its first run on a wild pitch by Hoffmann in the 4th, but the Tigers scored 3 more runs on yet another 2-out double by Amick followed by a single by red-hot Bertram. Jay Dill walked the bases loaded in the 6th, and Upstate scored its only other run on a full-count walk by Lindley to make it 7-2, but the Tigers' red-hot offense wasn't done scoring. Blackwell hit a 3-run HR in the 7th to make it 10-2, and the Tigers loaded the bases with no outs in the 8th with singles by Hall and Crighton followed by a Lackey walk. Even though Amick already had 5 RBI's in the game, Bakich decided to let Corbitt pinch hit for him with the big lead, and like all of Bakich's moves of late, it paid off! Corbitt singled to make it 11-2, and the Tigers scored the winning run on a wild pitch to give them the 12-2 win by run rule.
The Tigers' offense tallied 13 hits, 6 walks and one hit batter. Amick and Taylor remained red-hot, each going 2-2, and Taylor reached base 4 times with a pair of walks. Taylor is 17 for his last 28 with 2 HR's, 3 doubles and 8 RBI's. Amick is 13 for his last 22 with 2 HR's, 5 doubles and 14 RBI's. Ingle was 2-3 with a double and a walk, extending his on-base streak to 47 games. Starter Joe Allen pitched just 2 innings but picked up the win, improving to 3-0 on the season. Hoffmann, Reid, Dill, Lindley and Bailey all pitched in relief.
It was the Tigers' 3rd run-rule win of the season. They have won 9 straight and 14 of their last 15, averaging 9.5 runs per game over that stretch! They host UNC to wrap up the regular season beginning on Thursday.
