I've been saying for a couple months that I gave it a 50/50 chance Will Shipley would return to Clemson next season, and now we have our answer: he will enter the NFL Draft. The Tigers probably would not have won the Gator Bowl without his 60-yard kickoff return in the 4th quarter, which resulted in a knee injury. Fortunately, the MRI came back negative, and he will not need surgery, but one has to wonder if that planted the seed in his head that he'd better not risk any more injuries in college and put his financial future in jeopardy. He already suffered a knee injury in 2021, his freshman season. It turns out that the Gator Bowl kickoff return would be his last play in a Clemson uniform.
I would have loved to see Ship return with his best friend and roommate, Phil Mafah, for a national championship run, but the Tigers will be fine in the backfield with Mafah, Jay Haynes and Keith Adams, Jr. It will be fun to see what Ship does at the next level! Perhaps the Jags will draft him and pair him in the backfield with Travis Etienne and Trevor Lawrence. Wouldn't that be exciting?!
