CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers simply did not show up on Friday night against Kennesaw State. Their heads might have been a little swollen with the great start to the season and No.8 ranking, and they took one on the chin, losing 18-1. However, they responded on Saturday in a back-and-forth game, scoring 3 runs in the 8th to win 8-6, and they dominated on Sunday to take the series, 7-2. They were a couple outs away from their first shutout of the season but allowed 2 in the 9th with their first error of the game after 6 errors on Saturday. Cam Cannarella homered in each of the first two games, bumping his average up to .583, but he came back down to Earth on Sunday with just one hit. Hinderleider hit two HR's on Saturday, giving him a team-leading 3 on the season. Catcher Jake Jarrell will be out for a couple weeks after the ball hit him in the face on Tuesday, so Michigan transfer Jimmy Obertop was behind the plate all weekend. Freshman starting pitcher Aidan Knaak had an outstanding outing on Sunday, allowing no runs and just 3 hits in his first career win. The Tigers loaded the bases 4 times in the first 6 times on Sunday and probably lead the nation in that category this season. We haven't seen reliever Reid Garris yet this season, and I asked Bakich about his status. Bakich said he is ready to go, and we should see him soon! Garris was 4-0 out of the pen last season. Will Taylor has been mired in an awful slump to start the season. He has just one hit and is 0 for his last 22. However, the Tigers have still managed to average over 8 runs per game, not counting the anomaly on Friday, and it's just a matter of time until Taylor breaks out of his slump!
The Tigers host USC Upstate, who beat them in Greenville last season, on Tuesday. Then it's the Palmetto Series against the No.20 Gamecocks. Post-game interviews are below!
