GREENVILLE, SC - Another great game! It looked like there would be a lot of runs early after a crazy first inning, but it turned into a pitchers' duel. Listi led off the game be smoking the first pitch down the right field line for a triple, but he was thrown out at the plate tagging from 3rd on a tremendous throw from the left fielder. In the bottom of the first, the Gamecocks loaded the bases with no outs, but Darden miraculously kept them off the board, and both pitchers settled in for the next several innings with few base runners.
The Tigers finally broke through in the 6th thanks to a double by Cam. He scored the second run of the game with great base running, scoring from 2nd on a swinging bunt by Gaffney. Titsworth, who got the save against the Gamecocks in the 5-4 win on Sunday last season, started the 8th inning and gave up a two-out solo HR to Petry over the green monster in left for the Gamecocks' first run of the game. However, the Tigers' offense responded in the 9th. Jarrell, who had a slow start to the season at the plate, ripped a single to give the Tigers an insurance run, and they added two more to give them a comfortable 5-1 lead, and Titsworth closed the books in the 9th.
The Tigers have clinched the Palmetto Series for the second straight year and improve to 9-1 on the season. They will go for the sweep in Columbia at 5:00 on Sunday. Post-game interviews are below!
