CLEMSON, SC - History in Littlejohn! 26 wins and 18 ACC wins, both program firsts! It was an emotional night, especially for seniors Ian, Chase, Viktor, Jaeden and Myles, but they took care of business against the Hokies, finishing the regular season with a 65-47 win. The icing on the cake was that the senior walk-ons got to play at the end of the game. Not only that, but Matt Kelly hit a 3-pointer to send the crowd into a frenzy, and Daniel Nauseef made a free throw to join the stat sheet.
The Tigers tied the 1998-99 Duke team for second-most ACC wins by 10 or more points in a season, trailing only the current Duke team for the all-time record. The Tigers were hopeful that UNC would upset Duke, which would give the Tigers a share of the ACC regular season title for just the second time ever, but it was not to be. That game was wrapping up during our post-game interviews, and the players and Brownell were peeking over our shoulders at the live broadcast to see if their hopes would be answered. The Heels actually led by 5 well into the second half, but Duke pulled away. In the end, that crazy triple-overtime loss to Tech cost the Tigers their second-ever ACC title. They would have had the same conference record as Duke with the head-to-head win over the Devils. No regular season title, but the Tigers have an excellent shot to claim their first-ever ACC Tournament title in Charlotte next week! They will open play in the quarterfinals at 9:30.
