CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers beat No.17 Louisville 7-6 on Thursday night and 2-1 on Friday, improving to 9-0 in one-run games this season. They should have easily swept the series with the Cards but squandered countless opportunities to put the game away on Saturday. The Tigers stranded the bases loaded three times, left 16 on base (double the Cardinals' total) and were 2-19 with runners in scoring position. Louisville tied the game 3-3 thanks to a wild pitch and took its first lead of the game in the 9th inning with a 2-out dying quail to shallow center. The Tigers never quit, though, and Paino tied the game in the bottom of the 9th with a leadoff HR. The Cardinals retook the lead 6-4 in the 10th, but the Tigers responded again, tying the game and sending it to the 11th. In the 12th inning, however, Louisville hit a 2-run HR, and the Tigers didn't have one more rally in them.
Jack Crighton was the hero on Thursday. His first career HR with 2 outs in the 7th was the game-winner. Titsworth got his first weekend start on the mound on Saturday and pitched a gem in the 2-1 win.
Saturday's loss will sting because it should have been a sweep, but the Tigers will have to flush it quickly because they have a big top-5 showdown with I-85 rival Georgia on Tuesday night! The Tigers improved to 6-0 in their ACC series this season.
