CLEMSON, SC - After a five-inning, 10-2 run-rule win over Upstate to open the regional, the Tigers won an extra-inning pitchers' duel 1-0 over Northwestern on Saturday. For the second straight game, Brooke McCubbin came in early to relieve ACC Pitcher of the Year Reese Basinger and allowed no runs to earn the win. Captain Aby Vieira was the hero on Saturday, hitting a triple in the 9th and scoring the game's only run on a suicide squeeze bunt by Collins.
On Sunday, Reese got in an early one-out jam for the third straight game, with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the 3rd inning. However, this time, knowing he had a one-game cushion in his pocket, Rittman decided to let Reese pitch her way out of it, and she did just that! She held onto the 1-0 lead, and the offense responded with a 3-HR by Pipkins to make it 4-0. McCubbin would come in again in the 6th and retire every batter she faced for the 5-1 win.
The Tigers advanced to their 3rd Super Regional in 5 years (all on the road) and will head to Austin to play No.6 Texas beginning on Thursday.
