DURHAM, NC - The Tigers' ACC Tournament debut got off to an ominous start, as All-ACC First-Teamer Aidan Knaak gave up a leadoff HR to the first batter of the game. It often takes him a couple innings before he starts mowing them down, and that's exactly what he did on Wednesday. It would be the only run of the game for the Hokies, as Knaak went 6 innings and improved to 9-1 on the season. McGovern pitched 2 nearly perfect innings in middle relief, allowing just one walk with 3 K's, and Allen went 1-2-3 with a K in the 9th.
After the leadoff HR by the Hokies in the 1st, the Tigers responded immediately in the bottom half. Cam hit a leadoff double and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. Listi hit a 2-out, 2-run HR to make it 3-1, and that was all the lead that the Tigers would need. However, Listi added some insurance with another big 2-out hit in the 5th, driving in 2 runs with a double to make it 5-1. They added another run in the 6th when Wentworth hit a leadoff double and scored on a sac fly by Cam. Wentworth hasn't started much this season, but he made the most of his opportunity, going 2-4 with the double and run scored.
The Tigers will have a tough test on Thursday night. They play NC State, who swept them this season, and the Pack will have a home crowd to boot. First pitch will be at 7:00 on ACCN, and we'll have live coverage from Durham right here!
