CLEMSON, SC - Ian was arrested on suspicion of DUI late Saturday night, early Sunday morning. It remains to be seen how Dabo will handle his discipline, but this is obviously a huge disappointment, especially so close to the season opener. I'm not sure that he would have played in the opener because he is still learning the position, which is the hardest to learn next to that of quarterback, but he may have been used on special teams for blocking kicks. The offense is in good hands with Sapp and Patt-Henry at tight end.
However, the former first-team All-ACC basketball star's transition to tight end was one of the things I was most excited about this season. I couldn't wait to potentially see him on the field in the first game or two of the season, but we will have to wait a while longer for that now.
Statement from Dabo:
"We are aware of Ian Schieffelin’s arrest on suspicion of DUI. Clemson Athletics has a clear policy by which we will abide, so Ian will miss some competition to start this season as a consequence. We’re obviously very disappointed by the situation, but we are very thankful no others were involved and no one was hurt.”
More to come.
