What a trip to the west coast! The Tigers fought off the jet lag to win a thriller at Stanford on Wednesday, adjusted to the time zone and dominated Cal. They were down early 13-9 before going on a 23-1 run to take a 39-20 to halftime and never looked back. Once again, it was a balanced attack for the Tigers offensively with lots of production from the bench. Godfrey and Buckner led with 13 points, and Welling and Wahlin each added 11. Dallas Thomas has been making the most of his opportunities of late. He made a big 3 early against Stanford in just 3 minutes of action, and he was 3-3 with 8 points in 5 minutes against Cal! Don't be surprised if he gets a little more playing time going forward.
The Tigers have won 20 games for four straight seasons, improving to 20-4 overall and 10-1 in ACC play. They have won 14 straight ACC road games and are 28-3 in regular season conference play over the last two seasons! Of course, the Tigers' only ACC loss this season came in overtime after they missed a free throw to win it in regulation.
Meanwhile, about 3,000 miles away, Duke lost at UNC on a buzzer-beater 3-pointer! The Heels never led in the game until that last shot with less than a second left. Incidentally, UNC lost both of their games at Stanford and Cal, so that gives you an idea where the Tigers stand in relation to the two Tobacco Road blue bloods. With Duke's first loss in conference play, the Tigers are now tied with the Devils atop the ACC standings with a big Valentine's Day showdown in Cameron looming next Saturday! Let's just hope Teddy Valentine isn't officiating like he did the last meeting in Durham.
First, the Tigers have to take care of business when they host the Hokies on Wednesday. Post-game interviews and highlights are below!
