DURHAM, NC - It was an unhappy Valentine's Day for the Tigers at Cameron Indoor Stadium. They played well defensively in the first half and had a good shot to make it a 3-point game at halftime, but they struggled offensively all game long against one of the best defenses in the nation. The Tigers got a lot of open looks from the perimeter but just couldn't get their shots to fall. They were just 1-9 from the arc in the first half and 6-24 in the game. Meanwhile, they gave up too many 3's, just as they did in the loss to the Hokies on Wednesday. They did a reasonable job defensively against one of the best offenses in the nation, holding them to 67 points, but the Tigers simply did not make enough shots to keep pace with the Devils. At least the Tigers ended on a positive note: Dillon Hunter made a 3-pointer to end the game, preventing him from going 3 straight games without a field goal. Ironically, that shot covered the spread for the Tigers.
A win would have put the Tigers in the driver's seat for the ACC title, but now they are 2 games behind Duke and a game behind Virginia. It was the Tigers' first ACC road loss since early last season at Louisville. They will look to bounce back on Wednesday at Wake.
