CHARLOTTE, NC - What a crazy finish! The Tigers led by as many as 18 late in the game, but the Heels came storming back, hitting five 3-pointers in the last 2:30. The last one cut the lead to one with 3 seconds left! Nick Davidson was fouled and wisely intentionally missed his second free throw, which forced a Hail Mary shot from three-quarters court to end the game.
The Tigers were without starting center and second-leading scorer Carter Welling, who tore his ACL in the first half on Wednesday night, but the bench was sensational for the second straight game, and Nick Davidson stepped up with 17 points. Butta Johnson hit a couple of big 3's late and finished with 10 points, and Dillon Hunter had one of his best offensive games of the season with 14 points, including 4 clutch free throws at the end of the game.
The Tigers continue their revenge tour, having beaten two of the teams from their 4-game skid last month, and next they will get a chance to avenge their loss to No.1 Duke in Cameron on Valentine's Day. It will be a tall task beating the No.1 team with the home crowd in Charlotte, but the Devils are without their second-best big man and starting guard, Caleb Foster, and they barely escaped against FSU on Thursday night, as the Noles missed the would-be game-winning shot.
Tip is at 9:30 on Friday, and I'll have live coverage from Charlotte right here. Post-game interviews and highlights are below!
