We just wrapped up our post-practice interview with Dabo. He told me they intend to use Lyn-J on kickoff returns, even though they only have Choice and Kendrick listed on the depth chart. In case you missed my report yesterday, Dabo told us they intend to red shirt Cornell Powell, who started the season on kickoff returns but has missed the last two games with an academic issue.
Dabo talked about what makes this team so good in high stakes, "pressure" games year in and year out, and he said it all comes down to their preparation. He made the analogy of showing up for a big exam either prepared or unprepared, saying that when you're prepared, you can't wait to take the exam because you know you will have the right answers. He said he believes pressure is self-induced in that way--you only feel it when you're unprepared.
I also asked Dabo about Jordan Williams's progress after finally seeing action at Wake. He bruised his knee in the opener against Furman and missed the next 4 games. Dabo said the injury set him back a little bit, as Venables also told us, but that he is doing great now.
Finally, I asked Dabo how Trevor compares to Deshaun in his comportment as a true freshman. Leadership is practically a job requirement at the quarterback position, but at the same time it's rare for a true freshman to be one of the leaders of the team. Trevor and Deshaun seem to be very similar in their quiet demeanor and humility off the field but are able to lead by example on and off the field in their preparation and performance.
