CLEMSON, SC - The Tigers won their second straight season opener on Friday after losing the opener 4 straight years. The Tigers scored 6 unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the 4th. Brooks Crawford gave up back-to-back home runs in that inning after retiring the first 10 batters.
The Tigers were 2nd in nation in HR's last season and picked up right where they left off despite losing Beer and Williams. Davidson hit a 3-run shot to put the Tigers ahead 3-2, and transfer Michael Green later hit a solo homer. Green reached base 4 times in his Clemson debut with 2 walks, a single and the home run. It has to be tough to make your Clemson debut replacing the legendary Seth Beer in right field, but Green didn't show any nervousness!
Mat Clark, who won 4 games in relief last season, relieved Crawford in the 4th and got the win. Carson Spiers came in for Clark with bases loaded in the 8th and got the save.
The Tigers will play a double-header on Saturday beginning at 1:00 due to rain forecast for Sunday. Post-game interviews with Monte Lee, Carson Spiers, Logan Davidson and Michael Green are below!
