We got Trevor Lawrence and Dabo on Monday after their second spring practice in full pads. It was Trevor's first time talking to the media since the morning after winning the National Championship in California. I asked Dabo if he noticed a sense of urgency with DT Xavier Kelly over the past week, and he said he has. He added that it's an enormous opportunity for Kelly this spring with all the snaps he will get in practice. Nyles Pinckney and Jordan Williams are both out for the entire spring due to minor injuries, so it will be all freshman at defensive tackle with the exception of Kelly, who is a converted defensive end with very little experience at tackle.
Trevor said that he completely supports, of course, what Dabo said last week about him having to earn his starting job again. That is just the culture of this program at every position, and they all know it. I asked Trevor about his first impressions of freshman Taisun Phommachanh, and he also told me that he missed having Hunter Renfrow out there at practice. Trevor also had a good laugh about playing intramural basketball with his teammates and all the attention it got.
